I saw a woman walking down the street the other day who looked like she was wrapped up in misery. Everything about her screamed out misery. Her expression, her gait, her posture, her clothing, her vibe, everything. I started thinking about the fact that we’re all wrapped up in something and that something shouts loudly to everyone we meet.
So… What are YOU wrapped up in? Are you wrapped up in writing or marketing your book? If you are serious about getting your project done, it’s a good thing to be wrapped up in it. When you are that focused on something you want to accomplish, your entire being shows it. All of the energy points in your direction to help you move forward.
You probably already know that I’m wrapped up in enthusiasm about working with authors. People keep showing up to help me achieve my goals of helping authors. We have this cool symbiotic relationship, allowing us both to achieve our goals. They have books to be written and published and I get to do what I love best, help them do exactly that. Is that cool or what?! Does that happen in your work?
Everywhere I go, I want to meet and talk with people who are writing books and can use my assistance and knowledge to help achieve their goals. I think about it all the time. Oh yes, I’m definitely wrapped up in that.
The week before writing this article, however, I was also wrapped up in moving everything we own to storage while we await approval to move into a condo. One thing about South Florida is that many of the better apartments are actually condo complexes. This means that you have to go through an approval process with the condominium association after you sign a lease, before you can move into the unit. That is, if they say it’s ok. These condo associations have a committee that meets once-in-a-while to approve prospective residents. It has absolutely nothing to do with your convenience, so the storage facilities really make out well in those areas. I suspect there is a lot of ego wrapped around these committees!
With all that moving, I was distracted in a big way from my first love of working with authors. I see that happening to a lot of people these days. They are moving, taking care of relatives, dealing with emergencies, or traveling for business. How can you get your book written when you are wrapped up in other things?
What is holding you back from being wrapped up in your book?Is it something temporary? Is it fear or overwhelm? What do you need to shift or let go of to make it happen? There are some tricks and tips for moving forward, but first, you have to want to. Then you have to be willing to do some things differently. Sometimes you can delegate tasks to others. (You’d be surprised just how much you really can delegate!)
Believe me, I understand the challenge there. We all get used to doing things in a particular way, even though it may not really serve us. We think we have to do it all by ourselves. (That’s one I’m really working on letting go of!)
Sometimes it takes an outside eye to help clarify what needs to be shifted or how to make the shift. It’s a bit like looking over someone’s shoulder while they’re playing cards or checkers. You can see the exact move to be made, while they struggle and cannot see it at all. That’s what coaches do.
A few small tweaks can make a world of difference and you’re off and running again in the direction you want to be going. You will probably still have other things to attend to, but you are wrapped up in your project, rather than all of the other “stuff.” And you are much more effective in being able to accomplish your goals.
Since you are receiving this newsletter, you are probably in some stage of authorship (thinking about it, completing the process, already published) or else you are someone who works with people who are, in which case you probably pass this information to your clients and I thank you.
If you’re looking to get your book written and published, let’s set a time to talk. My enthusiasm and knowledge are at your service.
Happy Writing...
