Pamela Bruner, of MakeYourSuccessEasy.com recently wrote about a prospective client, Cheryl, whom she never got to work with. Pamela is one of the masters of Emotional Freedom Technique and now focuses on helping people get over their fear of sales, so they can be successful in business.

In her article, Pamela shared that she received an email from Cheryl, who had opted not to work with her “back then” and then later closed her business and took a job. Cheryl shared that she was not happy or satisfied with her life as an employee.

Pamela discussed that she was embarrassed to “sell” her business and quote rates in the earlier days of her business, and had, therefore, fallen short of getting her message across to this potential client (and possibly others!).

How Sad! Because Pamela had fears, both she and her potential client had missed out. Pamela missed the opportunity to follow her passion and contribute to that individual and the potential client missed out on having a successful business through Pamela’s contribution. Now, she has come back to Pamela, having lost time, money, and her business.

While it’s true that everyone has their path to walk and lessons to learn, we often miss out on opportunities to move forward faster, due to our fears. (And yet, how many times do we lament about not moving ahead fast enough!)

Similarly, I speak with many people who want to write a book, in some cases, they’ve even started it, but have put it on the back burner, oftentimes, for many years. Fears, overwhelm, and lack of information are the primary reasons they are giving up their dreams of being published authors. In many cases, they are also giving up having an increase in their revenues and credibility, and a great catalyst towards expansion of their businesses. Keeping the book on the back burner keeps them from totally pursuing their passions on every level.

If you see yourself in this story, what are you waiting for? What is holding you back? How can I support you to move forward? For me, it is always an honor and a privilege to be the book “mid-wife” for an upcoming author. My passion is to help authors get their books written and out to the world; taking away fear and overwhelm is my specialty.

So, as I read Pamela’s article, it struck me how I also identified with the disappointment of missing the mark with a potential client and having them decide to “hold off for now.” I wonder if I could have communicated better.

Sometimes, it really is the circumstances—I understand that life often gets in the way of pursuing our dreams. It takes a whole other sort of support and courage to move forward in the face of great stress and adversity. This is especially true for those of us with aging parents. We are suddenly caught up in the whirlwind of someone else’s life with a set of circumstances that we are not prepared to handle. Overwhelm reins supreme!

That is why I am also diligently working on finishing up mybook “OMG! My Parents are Getting OLD!” It will be the definitive resource forfamilies to be empowered in the issues around aging. Along with my own story of dealing with the final years of my mom’s life, it includes chapters from over 50 professionals who work with seniors in a wide variety of fields, and the lessons from more than 65 family caregivers who have “been there.” It has a comprehensive resource section and will be fully indexed. (If you have any resources that have been helpful to you and your family, please send them along so I can include them in the book, and eventually, the website.)

In between working on projects for clients, I am focusing on getting this book completed for you and millions of others.

When you have a coach, or a support system, it is much easier to accomplish your goals, no matter how much you have going on. If you are ready to venture out to get your book done, let me know. We’ll see how Ican best support you.

And if you’re dealing with the overwhelm of caring for an aging parent, I may have some resources for you there, too. Just drop me an email.
